Where did the tassel come from?

A company in Massachusetts called The Alden Shoe Company has claimed to be the inventors of the tasseled loafer. Actor Paul Lukas approached the company with the idea of adapting a pair of shoes he acquired in Europe that had tassels on the laces.

The original adaptation of the moccasin with the decorative tassels usually had white top panels and become popular in Hollywood. The style we are familiar with was being produced by the early 50s and in 1957 Brooks Brothers added it to their collections.

Tasseled loafers then became popular in the main stream during the 1960s as the preppy style swept the globe. The tassels were here to stay and today they are a classic piece of design.

Check out the Hugs & Co. take on the well known style; tassels, super comfy suede leather and the pimpled rubber sole. Most brands and shoemakers are asking over £300 for their version of the classic but a pair of Hugs & Co. loafers will only set you back £49.99. Combine that with the Hugs & Co. determination to only produce top quality products that are made to the very best standards and you’ve got a chance you can’t miss out on.
